This unit develops learners’ ability to identify employment pathways and job opportunities in the hospitality industry. It supports students in planning and preparing for entry-level roles.
FSKWTG006 – Write simple workplace information
This unit equips students with the skills to create simple workplace documentation, including forms, emails, and other routine written communication, enhancing workplace literacy.
FSKOCM003 – Participate in familiar spoken interactions at work
This unit develops students’ confidence and competence in everyday workplace communication, including speaking with colleagues, supervisors, and customers in routine situations.
SITXFSA005 Use hygienic practices for food safety
This unit covers how food handlers maintain personal hygiene, prevent contamination, and control food hazards. It applies to kitchens, cafes, bars, restaurants, hospitals, aged care, events, and transport catering. Food handlers must follow the Australia New Zealand Food Standards Code, and some regions require a certified food safety supervisor.
SITXFSA006 Participate in safe food handling practices
This unit covers safe food handling during storage, preparation, display, service, and disposal. It applies to food handlers in kitchens, cafes, bars, restaurants, hospitals, aged care, events, transport catering, and similar settings. Practices follow an organisation’s food safety program, usually based on HACCP. Food handlers—including cooks, chefs, kitchen staff, and beverage attendants—must comply with the Australia New Zealand Food Standards Code. Some regions require a certified food safety supervisor, and local authorities should be consulted for legislative and accreditation requirements.
HLTAID009 – Provide Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation
This unit describes the skills and knowledge required to perform cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) in line with the Australian Resuscitation Council (ARC) guidelines.
This unit applies to all persons who may be required to provide CPR, in a range of situations, including community and workplace settings.
Specific licensing/regulatory requirements relating to this competency, including requirements for refresher training should be obtained from the relevant national/state/territory Work Health and Safety Regulatory Authorities.
HLTAID010 Provide basic emergency life support
This unit describes the skills and knowledge required to recognise and respond to life-threatening emergencies in line with first aid guidelines determined by the Australian Resuscitation Council (ARC) and other Australian national peak clinical bodies.
This unit applies to all persons who may be required to provide an emergency response in a range of situations, including community and workplace settings.
Specific licensing/regulatory requirements relating to this competency, including requirements for refresher training should be obtained from the relevant national/state/territory Work Health and Safety Regulatory Authorities.
HLTAID011 Provide First Aid
This unit describes the skills and knowledge required to provide a first aid response to a casualty in line with first aid guidelines determined by the Australian Resuscitation Council (ARC) and other Australian national peak clinical bodies.

Learners must have the necessary language, literacy and numeracy skills to interpret and apply relevant information to commence learning in this program. Learners will be required to undergo a pre-enrolment assessment to determine their Language, Literacy and Numeracy (LLN) capability. This test aligns with the Australian Core Skills Framework (ACSF) which describes the outcomes of foundational skills relevant to the level of this program. The outcomes of this assessment will indicate whether a learner is suitable for the course or whether they require additional educational and support services, reasonable adjustment or referral to other training or services.
