Smart and Skilled is a New South Wales (NSW) government program that provides eligible students with access to subsidised vocational education and training (VET) courses. The program aims to help individuals develop the skills and knowledge they need to succeed in the workforce, improve their job prospects, and contribute to the growth of the NSW economy. Smart and Skilled funding is available to students who meet certain eligibility criteria and covers a range of courses in areas such as hospitality, construction, healthcare, business, and more.
Smart and Skilled funding is available to eligible individuals in New South Wales who are looking to upskill, reskill or gain new qualifications to improve their employment opportunities. To be eligible for Smart and Skilled funding, individuals must meet the following criteria:
• lives or works in NSW (determined by postcode of the usual place of residence or place of work); or
• is an Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander student who does not live or work in NSW but lives in specific defined interstate NSW border areas; and
• is:
i. an Australian citizen; or
ii. a permanent Australian resident; or
iii. a New Zealand citizen; or
iv. a humanitarian visa holder or a partner visa holder whose sponsor is a humanitarian visa holder; and
• is aged 15 years or older; and
• is no longer in secondary education – except for registered home school student; and
• has a valid Unique Student Identifier (USI)
