It prepares learners to work safely and effectively in environments where food is handled and customers are served, while strengthening workplace communication, writing, and employability skills. The course is suitable for learners looking for work in cafés, restaurants, hotels, clubs, catering businesses, and other hospitality settings.

This course is suitable for individuals seeking entry-level employment in the hospitality industry, including job seekers, school leavers, new migrants, and those looking to build foundation skills for work. It is ideal for learners who want to develop customer service, communication, food safety, and job-readiness skills for roles in cafés, restaurants, hotels, clubs, and other hospitality environments.

FSKLRG007 – Use strategies to identify job opportunities
This unit develops learners’ ability to identify employment pathways and job opportunities in the hospitality industry. It supports students in planning and preparing for entry-level roles.

FSKWTG006 – Write simple workplace information
This unit equips students with the skills to create simple workplace documentation, including forms, emails, and other routine written communication, enhancing workplace literacy.

FSKOCM003 – Participate in familiar spoken interactions at work
This unit develops students’ confidence and competence in everyday workplace communication, including speaking with colleagues, supervisors, and customers in routine situations.

SITXFSA005 – Use hygienic practices for food safety
This unit develops the skills and knowledge required to follow personal hygiene and workplace food safety procedures to prevent contamination and food-borne illness in hospitality and catering environments, in line with the Australia New Zealand Food Standards Code.

SITXFSA006 – Participate in safe food handling practices
This unit describes the performance outcomes, skills and knowledge required to handle food safely during the storage, preparation, display, service and disposal of food.

SITXCCS011 – Interact with customers
This unit builds essential customer service skills to effectively greet, assist, and respond to routine customer enquiries in hospitality, tourism, and events workplaces, under supervision and in line with industry standards.

THIS IS AN EXAMPLE

  • age: 15 or older
  • able to attend classes at the designated times
  • able to complete learning and assessment tasks to a satisfactory level, with support where required

Learners must have the necessary language, literacy and numeracy skills to interpret and apply relevant information to commence learning in this program. Learners will be required to undergo a pre-enrolment assessment to determine their Language, Literacy and Numeracy (LLN) capability. This test aligns with the Australian Core Skills Framework (ACSF) which describes the outcomes of foundational skills relevant to the level of this program. The outcomes of this assessment will indicate whether a learner is suitable for the course or whether they require additional educational and support services, reasonable adjustment or referral to other training or services.

Knowledge acquired will be assessed through a combination of Knowledge Questions and Performance Tasks such as role plays, written tasks, observation by the assessor, and any other assessment method deemed appropriate by the College.

8:30 am – 5:00 pm, Monday to Friday. Specific day and time will be emailed once enrolment is confirmed.

At the College at 98 Bondi Road, Bondi Junction 2022 or at a location suitable to the organisation requesting the bespoke course.

This skillset may be fully funded by the NSW Government subject to set criteria to assess the learner’s eligibility.
