This unit describes the skills and knowledge required for a worker to participate in safe work practices to ensure their own health and safety, and that of others in work environments that involve caring directly for clients. Learners must have the necessary language, literacy and numeracy skills to interpret and apply relevant information to commence learning in this program. Learners will be required to undergo a pre-enrolment assessment to determine their Language, Literacy and Numeracy (LLN) capability. This test aligns with the Australian Core Skills Framework (ACSF) which describes the outcomes of foundational skills relevant to the level of this program. The outcomes of this assessment will indicate whether a learner is suitable for the course or whether they require additional educational and support services, reasonable adjustment or referral to other training or services.

Knowledge acquired will be assessed through a combination of Knowledge Questions and Performance Tasks such as role plays, written tasks, observation by the assessor, and any other assessment method deemed appropriate by the College.
Upon successful completion, learners will receive a nationally accredited Statement of Attainment in the following unit:
