This program is designed for individuals who are preparing to enter the workforce and to increase their success in finding a job. This is done through improving oral and written communication skills and learning strategies for seeking employment.

  • people who wish to develop their foundational skills and prepare for workforce entry or vocational training;
  • people who have identified that they need to build learning, writing, and oral communication skills to enter their chosen employment pathway; and
  • people who are currently unemployed or underemployed.

Learners will gain several benefits from completing this course:

  • identifying job pathways and strategies to seek suitable employment
  • developing workplace writing skills
  • participating effectively in workplace conversations and meetings
  • giving, and responding to, instructions, making inquiries, and reporting problems
  • enhancing communication, employability, and workplace readiness.

Upon successful completion, learners will be able to:

  • prepare for workforce entry and increase their success in finding a job
  • develop a vocational training and employment plan
  • build learning skills through developing job search strategies
  • build writing skills by designing a resume and cover letter
  • build oral communication skills through mock interviews.

This program is designed for individuals who require further foundational skills development to prepare for workforce entry. It is suitable for individuals who are seeking employment skills to enhance their prospects of gaining employment. 

Units of Competency

FSKLRG007 – Use strategies to identify job opportunities

This unit describes the skills and knowledge required to identify job pathways and strategies to seek suitable employment. An individual performing these tasks may work with an expert or mentor where support is available if requested.

This unit applies to individuals who use, or are preparing to use, learning skills to complete workplace activities. This includes existing workers and individuals preparing for employment through vocational education and training. This unit should be integrated and contextualised with vocational training to support achievement of vocational competency.

This unit is aligned to, but does not fully address, the Australian Core Skills Framework (ACSF) learning core skill indicators .01 and .02 at level 2 in the workplace and employment domain of communication.

No licensing, legislative or certification requirements apply to this unit at the time of publication.

FSKWTG006 – Write simple workplace information

This unit describes the skills and knowledge required to write simple workplace information, which may be in printed or digital formats, such as workplace reports, including incident or accident reports, pro-formas or templates, emails, messages, notes, statements or WHS records. An individual performing these tasks may work with an expert or mentor where support is available if requested.

This unit applies to individuals who use, or are preparing to use, writing skills to complete workplace activities. This includes existing workers and individuals preparing for employment through vocational education and training. This unit should be integrated and contextualised with vocational training to support achievement of vocational competency.

The unit is aligned to, but does not fully address, the Australian Core Skills Framework (ACSF) writing core skill indicators .05 and .06 at level 2 in the workplace and employment domain of communication.

FSKOCM003 – Participate in familiar spoken interactions at work

This unit describes the skills and knowledge required to participate in a limited range of familiar spoken interactions in the workplace, such as talking with co-workers, participating in workplace meetings, giving and responding to simple instructions, receiving and passing on simple messages, making an inquiry, or reporting a problem. An individual performing these tasks may work with an expert or mentor where support is available if requested.

This unit applies to individuals who use, or are preparing to use, oral communication skills to complete workplace activities. This includes existing workers and individuals preparing for employment through vocational education and training. This unit should be integrated and contextualised with vocational training to support achievement of vocational competency.

This unit is aligned to, but does not fully address, the Australian Core Skills Framework (ACSF) oral communication core skill indicators .07 and .08 at level 2 in the workplace and employment domain of communication.

  • age: 15 or older
  • able to attend classes at the designated times
  • able to complete learning and assessment tasks to a satisfactory level, with support where required.

Learners must have the necessary language, literacy and numeracy skills to interpret and apply relevant information to commence learning in this program. Learners will be required to undergo a pre-enrolment assessment to determine their Language, Literacy and Numeracy (LLN) capability. This test aligns with the Australian Core Skills Framework (ACSF) which describes the outcomes of foundational skills relevant to the level of this program. The outcomes of this assessment will indicate whether a learner is suitable for the course or whether they require additional educational and support services, reasonable adjustment or referral to other training or services.

Knowledge acquired will be assessed through a combination of Knowledge Questions and Performance Tasks such as role plays, written tasks, observation by the assessor, and any other assessment method deemed appropriate by the College.

Upon successful completion, learners will receive a nationally accredited Statement of Attainment in the following units:

Specific day and time will be emailed once enrolment is confirmed.

At the College at 98 Bondi Road, Bondi Junction 2022 or at a location suitable to the organisation requesting the bespoke skillset.

This skillset may be fully funded by the NSW Government subject to set criteria to assess the learner’s eligibility.
