Unit Summaries:
CHCDIV001 – Work with diverse people This unit describes the skills and knowledge required to work respectfully with people from diverse social and cultural groups and situations, including Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people.
CHCLEG001 – Work legally and ethically This unit describes the skills and knowledge required to identify and work within the legal and ethical frameworks that apply to an individual job role. This unit applies to community services and health workers who play a proactive role in identifying and meeting their legal and ethical responsibilites.
CHCCOM005 – Communicate and work in health or community services This unit describes the skills and knowledge required to communicate effectively with clients, colleagues, management and other industry providers. This unit applies to a range of health and community service contexts where workers may communicate face-to-face, in writing or using digital media and work with limited responsibility under direct or indirect supervision.
HLTWHS001 – Participate in workplace health and safety This unit describes the skills and knowledge required for workers to participate in safe work practices to ensure their own health and safety, and that of others. The unit applies to all workers who require knowledge of workplace health and safety (WHS) to carryout their own work, either under direct supervision or with some individual responsibility.
CHCCCS031 – Provide individualised support This unit describes performance outcomes, skills and knowledge required to organise, provide and monitor personal support services for a person within the limits established by an individualised plan. This unit applies to workers who provide support under direct or remote supervision. Work is carried out in a manner which supports independence as well as the physical and emotional wellbeing of the person receiving support.
HLTAID009 – Provide cardiopulmonary resuscitation The unit applies to all persons who may be required to provide CPR, in a range of situations, including community and workplace settings.
HLTAID010 – Provide basic emergency life support The unit applies to all persons who may be required to provide an emergency response in a range of situations, incluing community and workplace settings.
HLTAID011 – Provide First Aid The unit applies to all persons who may be required to provide a first aid response in a range of situations, including community and workplace settings.

Students must have the necessary language, literacy and numeracy skills to interpret and apply relevant information to commence learning in this program. Students may be required to undergo a pre-enrolment assessment to determine their Language, Literacy and Numeracy (LLN) capability. This test aligns with the Australian Core Skills Framework (ACSF) which describes the outcomes of foundation skills relevant to the level of this program. The outcomes of this test will indicate whether a student is suitable for the course or whether they require additional educational and support services, reasonable adjustment or referral to other training or services.

Upon successful completion, students will receive a nationally accredited Statement of Attainment in the following units:
Credit transfer is recognition that you’ve previously completed a unit of your course through VET or higher education. To receive a credit transfer for a unit you must provide formal evidence that you’ve previously completed the unit or a unit which matches in content and outcome. Formal evidence can be a qualification certificate or transcript, statement of attainment or your USI transcript. When credit is recognised, you don’t need to repeat training or assessment for that unit. Apply for your Credit Transfer at enrol@secc.edu.au, and we will assess your eligibility.
Recognition of prior learning (RPL) is an assessment of skills and knowledge you’ve acquired through previous training, work or life experience which are relevant to your course. RPL allows your provider to assess your existing competency against the requirements of the course. You can be granted part or all of a unit of competency by RPL. Apply for your RPL at enrol@secc.edu.au, and we will assess your eligibility.
