This course aims to assist learners to build their oral communication skills including basic grammar, vocabulary, pronunciation and non-verbal communication skills. It focuses on general language used in the Australian workplace.

The learners are CALD job-seeking refugees from the Ukraine. The course is non-accredited.  This is

Learners will gain several benefits from completing this unit, including but not limited to:

  • participate effectively in everyday Australian conversations.
  • improve listening and communication skills for social and workplace settings.

By the end of the course, learners will be able to:

  • correctly pronounce simple English language words appropriate to the workplace
  • use oral communication strategies in one-to-one exchanges.

Improving conversation and pronunciation skills is a significant step toward navigating the Australian job market and makes candidates more competitive for the following roles:

  • customer services
  • retails
  • aged care
  • disability support
  • logistic & delivery.

It is preparation for attaining a higher level of oral communication strategies and skills.

Prospective learners must be 15 years of age or over and recently-arrived Ukrainian refugees.

Learners will participate in two different short, simple and explicit spoken exchanges, and demonstrate the ability to complete the tasks in accordance with the Learning Outcomes:

  • use common formal and informal greetings appropriately in Australian English
  • introduce yourself
  • understand common requests for basic information
  • use basic intonation
  • participate in simple and short conversations at work/in the community about a familiar topic, using oral communication strategies.

Upon successful completion, learners will receive a Statement of Attendance.
