This unit describes the performance outcomes, skills and knowledge required to deliver fundamental customer service to both internal and external customers. It requires the ability to greet and serve customers and respond to a range of basic customer service enquiries, including routine customer problems.

This unit applies to frontline service personnel who operate under close supervision and with guidance from others. They provide routine customer service and would not be expected to respond to complex customer requests or complaints.

This unit applies to individuals working in a range of tourism, travel, hospitality and events contexts.

Learners will gain several benefits from completing this course:

  • knowledge about how to greet and serve customers
  • an ability to work with others to deliver service
  • how to provide feedback on customer service.

Upon successful completion, learners will be able to:

  • greet and prioritise customers ahead of other workplace duties
  • communicate with customers in a clear and professional manner
  • resolve routine customer problems using workplace policies and procedures
  • escalate service issues to a higher level staff member when required
  • provide customer feedback to relevant supervisor/s.

On completion of this skillset, learners can apply for roles such as:

  • hospitality staff (restaurants, cafes, pubs)
  • customer service assistant
  • front desk assistant.

This unit describes the performance outcomes, skills and knowledge required to deliver fundamental customer service to both internal and external customers. It requires the ability to greet and serve customers and respond to a range of basic customer service enquiries, including routine customer problems.

  • age: 16 or older
  • able to attend classes at the designated times and have the basic physical fitness to work in a food handling environment
  • able to complete learning and assessment tasks to a satisfactory level, with support where required.

Learners must have the necessary language, literacy and numeracy skills to interpret and apply relevant information to commence learning in this program. Learners will be required to undergo a pre-enrolment assessment to determine their Language, Literacy and Numeracy (LLN) capability. This test aligns with the Australian Core Skills Framework (ACSF) which describes the outcomes of foundational skills relevant to the level of this program. The outcomes of this assessment will indicate whether a learner is suitable for the course or whether they require additional educational and support services, reasonable adjustment or referral to other training or services.

Knowledge acquired will be assessed through a combination of Knowledge Questions and Performance Tasks such as role plays, written tasks, observation by the assessor, and any other assessment method deemed appropriate by the College.
