This program is designed for learners who have entered the workforce and want to improve their skills in their jobs, to develop skills and familiarisation of Australian workplace culture in order to prepare for workforce entry, or to enter a vocational pathway or undertake further foundation skills development, or to build reading, numeracy and digital skills.

This skillset is suitable for:

  • learners who desire to further develop their foundation skills and enhance their workplace skills
  • learners who have identified that they need to reach ACSF level 3 in reading, oral communication and learning skills to progress in their chosen pathway, and those who want to enhance their employability skills
  • learners  who are currently unemployed or underemployed adults, migrants and refugees.

Learners will gain several benefits from completing these units, including but not limited to:

  • identifying routine workplace problems and apply practical strategies to solve them independently
  • using familiar resources effectively to support decision-making and workplace tasks
  • communicating and interact confidently with colleagues, clients, and supervisors in a professional environment.

Upon successful completion, learners will be able to:

  • develop foundation skills in spoken communication and problem-solving strategies
  • identify an appropriate career and develop a career plan.

The program provides learners with foundation skills for entering the workforce, pursuing a vocational pathway, or developing further foundation skills.

Units of Competency

FSKLRG009 – Use strategies to respond to routine workplace problems
This unit develops students’ skills and knowledge required to identify routine workplace problems and plan strategies to respond to them. No licensing or certification is required.

FSKLRG010 – Use routine strategies for career planning
This unit develops students’ confidence to select appropriate carees and work options and develop a career plan and work independently. No licensing or certification is required.

FSKOCM007 – Interact with others effectively at work
This unit develops students’ skills and knowledge required to interact effectively with other in the workplace, including external clients and internal staff. Interactions include giving or responding to spoken instructions, responding to customer queries and complaints, explaining a workplace procedure, or taking telephone calls from the general public or internal staff. No licensing or certification is required.

  • age: 15 or older
  • able to attend classes at the designated times
  • able to complete learning and assessment tasks to a satisfactory level, with support where required.

Learners must have the necessary language, literacy and numeracy skills to interpret and apply relevant information to commence learning in this program. Learners will be required to undergo a pre-enrolment assessment to determine their Language, Literacy and Numeracy (LLN) capability. This test aligns with the Australian Core Skills Framework (ACSF) which describes the outcomes of foundational skills relevant to the level of this program. The outcomes of this assessment will indicate whether a learner is suitable for the course or whether they require additional educational and support services, reasonable adjustment or referral to other training or services.

Knowledge acquired will be assessed through a combination of Knowledge Questions and Performance Tasks such as role plays, written tasks, observation by the assessor, and any other assessment method deemed appropriate by the College.

Upon successful completion, learners will receive a nationally accredited Statement of Attainment for the following units:

– FSKLRG009 Use strategies to respond to routine workplace problems

– FSKRDG010 Read and respond to routine workplace information

– FSKOCM007 Interact effectively with others at work

Class Timetable

8:30 am – 5:00 pm, Monday to Friday. Specific day and time will be emailed once enrolment is confirmed.

At the College at 98 Bondi Road, Bondi Junction 2022 or at a location suitable to the organisation requesting the bespoke course.

This skillset may be fully funded by the NSW Government subject to set criteria to assess the learner’s eligibility.

All courses need a minimum number of learners to run. If your course does not have sufficient learners, it will be cancelled prior to the commencement, and you will be informed.
